z-optimations is a service company specialized in reducing the technical non-productive times at predominantly CNC-controlled machines. We optimize non-productive times in the machine’s automated operational sequence, i.e. technical non-productive times that the operator cannot influence. Our measures improve the efficacy of the machine’s operation by:
Path optimization
ensures an increase in output ranging from 2 % to a maximum of ~30 %. The typical figure achieved is 6 %.
Here’s an example:
(1) Path preset by manufacturer: movement time 1,640 ms.
(2) Path after being optimized by z-optimations: movement time 1,120 ms. Reduction 520 ms (= 32 %)
We optimize the movements involved in the paths of rapid-traverse movements. And we also optimize the machine’s positioning behavior. And the CNC code. Thanks to our analytical tools developed in-house, we are able to identify time-stealing command sequences in parts programs and streamline them, thus achieving substantial time gains.
The overall result is an increased output at the machine, meaning more parts per time unit – without any increase in wear and tear, and (importantly!) without affecting the machine’s warranty.
Optimization is more than just our business, it’s our passion. Non-productive times can be minimized with almost no risk at all – which is why we’ve specialized in this. But our in-depth comprehension of the functions involved, in and around the machine, our special skill at identifying untapped options, our ability to efficaciously deploy lateral thinking to get that little bit extra that no one else had thought of: all of this does not, of course, stop there. For this reason, we also optimize loading devices, robots and PLC-controlled machines that operate in conjunction with CNC-controlled machines.
If in the case of your company we feel that in addition to optimizing non-productive times there are even more possibilities available, we will tell you – conversely, if you feel you need something else, please feel free to let us know.
Most probably we’ll be able to help.
We have successfully helped the sector’s really big players, which validates our approach and, of course, also makes us a bit proud (well, more than a bit, actually).
But we are totally committed to what we do, driven by the goal of wresting the final percent or two of optimization from CNC-controlled machines with a goodly portion of determination and imaginative ingenuity. Irrespective of how large or small the firm is in which they operate.
If you have machines that can be optimized, we’ll do it. With all due care – and full commitment.
We’re not in this for charity, of course: z-optimations wants to, indeed has to earn money. But we know very precisely where we can optimize what and by how much; this enables us to invoice our customers solely on a performance-related basis. For you, this means: only when you are producing more parts in a shorter time will we get anything out of it ourselves.
And don’t worry: only once per machine. If you’re using a large number of identical machines, then you’ll get a discount as well. And if you’re keen to have absolute certainty in advance, we can also jointly agree a maximum increase in output.
Conversely, though, this also means: if we don’t believe we can optimize your machine(s), we say so and stop. This necessitates a detailed verification job – which is free of charge for you, of course. If no order is placed, or if we prove unable to optimize your machine(s), it won’t cost you a cent – this is a win-win situation for you.
In 1991, Michael Zwerger founded an engineering office, initially as a very modest two-man operation. The office was primarily concerned with the design of cams for stamping and bending machines. We learned that a well-planned movement unleashes unexpectedly high optimization potential. This made us curious about other areas in which our motion expertise could be used. This gave rise to the idea of also implementing optimizations in electronically controlled machines. The first very successful projects with electronically controlled machines at INA Schaeffler and Bosch followed.
We then handled more and more special projects. Over time, it became increasingly clear that special projects are very time-consuming (and exhausting) to handle and so we also began to optimize our approach - and to standardize our optimization. The goal: to be able to offer and implement optimizations simply, quickly and, above all, with low financial risk for our customers.
We have achieved this. Today, z-optimations is a pure service company that offers machine optimization with proof of performance, performance-based billing and implementation in a very short time.
Our strong growth in the last 2 years (from 17 to 27 employees) is a nice and clear proof of our success.
We are a motley crew of software developers, mathematicians, business economists - but above all passionate optimizers.
Well, of course, nobody knows what tomorrow will bring. But we firmly believe that our product - optimization with proof of performance, performance-based billing and implementation in a very short time - will be in greater demand in the foreseeable future. After all, achieving more in less time is and always has been the driving force behind progress in production.
Of course: production conditions, indeed entire industries, are changing. But changing environmental conditions always create new opportunities and fields for optimization.
Over the past 20 years, we have constantly been working on new ideas and developments - and have continuously achieved more than was ever thought possible with innovative approaches and surprising solutions. It's fun for us, it's in our DNA. And we won't do it any differently for the next 20 years.
We look forward to your challenge.
